Introduction

Sněžka is the highest peak in the Czech Republic, reaching 1603 meters above sea level in the Karkonosze Mountains. The mountain attracts tourists from all over Europe. The trail is gentle and not too steep, making it suitable for beginner hikers and families with children. The hike is not technically demanding, but proper preparation is required, especially in changing weather conditions.

Weather

In the summer, temperatures on the trail can range from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. The trail is mostly forested, which protects hikers from the sun and heat. The surface is usually dry, but it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear, especially on rainy days.

In winter, temperatures on the trail can drop below -10 degrees Celsius, and snow covers most of the trail. Hiking can be difficult due to ice and snowdrifts. It is advisable to equip oneself with crampons and trekking poles.

How to get there?

The nearest airport is Wrocław-Strachowice Airport (WRO), from where one can rent a car and head south towards the Czech border. Pec pod Sněžkou is about 2.5 hours' drive from the airport. Alternatively, one can take a bus or train to the town.

Trailhead

The trail to Sněžka starts in the town of Pec pod Sněžkou. Before setting out, it is advisable to park one's car in one of the parking lots in the town, as parking near the trail is limited.

Route to the Summit

The trail to Sněžka is well marked and leads through picturesque mountainous terrain. For most of the time, we follow the yellow trail, which leads us all the way to the Schronisko Dom Śląski mountain hut. The estimated time to reach the summit is about 4-5 hours, depending on the pace of the hike and weather conditions. No additional climbing equipment is required, so even children and beginner hikers can enjoy this trail. During the hike, it is worth stopping to admire the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

Accommodation

On the way to the summit, there is the Schronisko Dom Śląski mountain hut, where one can stay overnight before continuing the hike or recharge by eating a meal in a cozy atmosphere. The hut offers various accommodation options and is open all year round. However, due to the high popularity of the place, it is strongly recommended to book accommodation in advance.
