Introduction

Slættaratindur is the highest peak in the Faroe Islands in Denmark, reaching a height of 880 metres above sea level. It is a perfect location for a hike, without the need for professional climbing equipment. The trail is gentle without any significant elevation changes. Its charming landscapes will enchant both novice and experienced hikers.

Weather

In the summer, the trail to the summit of Slættaratindur is pleasant and relatively easy. Temperatures range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. In good weather, you can enjoy a panorama of the entire archipelago of the Faroe Islands.

During winter, trail conditions can be more challenging due to snow, ice, and shorter days. Temperatures range from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius, and the summit may be covered in snow. It is advisable to bring warm clothing and appropriate footwear.

How to get there?

The nearest airport is Vágar Airport, from which you can drive to Eiði village. The journey by car takes about 1.5 hours. You can also use the bus that runs between the airport and Eiði.

Trailhead

The trailhead to Slættaratindur is located in Eiði village. There is a parking lot near the trailhead where you can leave your car before starting your hike.

Trail to the Summit

The trail to the summit of Slættaratindur is well-marked and leads through a variety of landscapes, such as meadows, heathland, and rocky terrain. The estimated time to reach the summit from the starting point is about 3-4 hours. Additional climbing equipment is not required, and the gentle slope of the terrain makes it possible for even a child to climb to the summit.

Accommodation

There is no mountain hut on the way to the summit, but there are various accommodation options in Eiði village, such as hotels, guesthouses, and holiday homes. It is advisable to book accommodation in Eiði the day before the hike to be able to start early in the morning and return before dusk.
