Introduction

Grauspitz is the highest peak in Liechtenstein, standing at 2599m above sea level. Climbing to the summit is quite demanding, with steep and exposed sections of the trail. The route is suitable for experienced mountain hikers.

Weather

In summer, temperatures on Grauspitz are moderate, usually ranging between 10-20 degrees Celsius. The sun can be intense, but frequent rainfall is also common. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and bring appropriate clothing.

In winter, Grauspitz is covered in snow, and temperatures drop below freezing. The trail becomes more dangerous due to ice and the risk of avalanches. Climbing in winter requires proper equipment and skills, as well as caution.

How to get there?

The best way to reach Liechtenstein and the starting point is by flying into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. Then, rent a car and drive about 1.5-2 hours east to Liechtenstein. Parkplatz Gänglesee is the starting point of the trail, located near the town of Steg.

Trailhead

The trailhead is located at the Parkplatz Gänglesee parking lot. From the parking lot, head north, following the signs leading to the summit of Grauspitz.

Trail to the summit

The trail leads through diverse terrain, initially through forest, and then through meadows and steep rocky slopes. The trail markings are good, but may be difficult to spot in some places. The estimated time to reach the summit is 6-8 hours. The climb is demanding, and in some places, the use of hands and additional climbing equipment may be necessary. The trail is not suitable for children or those with weaker climbing skills.

Accommodation

There is no mountain hut on the way to the summit. You should bring appropriate equipment to be able to spend the night on the mountain, such as a tent and sleeping bag. Alternatively, you can consider accommodation in the town of Steg or other nearby towns before or after the climb. There are various hotels, guesthouses, and apartments in the area that offer accommodation for tourists exploring the beauty of Liechtenstein and the surrounding mountains. Make sure to make a reservation in advance to secure a place to stay.
