Ta’Dmejrek - 253 m

The summit, if it can be called that, is located about 25 metres from the asphalt road running along the cliffs and is not marked in any way, and the locals there, for the most part (if not almost all), are unaware of its location - it is a vegetation-covered hill.

Introduction

Ta' Dmejrek is the highest point in Malta, standing at 253 metres above sea level. The climb to the summit is easy and does not require much experience or specialist equipment. The trail is rather gentle, without large elevations, and is suitable for all age groups, including children.

Weather

In summer, Malta enjoys warm and sunny weather. The average temperature ranges from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. The trail is dry and well-maintained, making hiking in summer a pleasant experience. Remember to wear a hat, sunscreen, and bring plenty of water.

In winter, the temperature in Malta is mild, ranging from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is possible, so it is worth preparing with waterproof clothing and shoes. There is rarely any snow on the trail, but be prepared for a more muddy and slippery surface.

How to get there?

The best solution is to land at Malta International Airport (MLA), from where you can go to the starting point. Dingli Cliffs are located about 13 km from the airport, which can be covered by renting a car or using local public transport (buses).

Starting point

The starting point of the trail is located at Dingli Cliffs. There is a large car park where you can leave your car before starting the hike.

Trail to the summit

The trail to Ta' Dmejrek leads through picturesque landscapes, among cliffs, fields, and villages. The terrain is mostly gentle, with small elevations. The estimated hiking time is about 1 hour. There is no need to use additional climbing equipment.

Accommodation

There is no refuge or other accommodation on the trail to the Ta' Dmejrek summit. However, due to the short hiking time and easy accessibility from nearby towns, this should not be a problem. It is worth considering staying in nearby towns such as Dingli, Rabat or Mdina, where there are many hotels, guesthouses, and apartments for rent. From these places, you can also go to visit other tourist attractions in Malta, such as the old town of Mdina, Megalithic Temples or Blue Grotto.
